Hand Coiled with a White Field and Painted Black Geometric Design Signed Acoma S J.
In Good Condition with Wear
Acoma Pueblo seed jars are traditional hand-coiled pottery vessels from Acoma Pueblo (Sky City) in New Mexico, one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in North America. They feature thin walls, a rounded or globular shape with a small opening at the top (originally for storing seeds, now mostly decorative/collectible), white slip, and intricate black-on-white or polychrome (black, white, red/orange) geometric, fine-line, or Mimbres-inspired designs. Potters use local clay, yucca brushes, mineral/vegetal paints, and outdoor firing.
