In Very Good Condition
Acoma Pueblo seed pottery (often called seed jars or seed pots) is a cherished form of traditional Native American pottery from Acoma Pueblo (also known as "Sky City"), one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in North America, located in New Mexico.
Acoma pottery is renowned for its exceptionally thin walls, made possible by the unique slate-like clay sourced from the hills around the Pueblo. This clay allows potters to create lightweight yet durable pieces. The pottery is hand-coiled (traditional method), slipped with white clay for a creamy or bright base, and painted with natural mineral and vegetal pigments in black, red, orange, or polychrome (multi-color) designs. Firing occurs outdoors in traditional pits.
