Hand Coiled Turtle Figure with Painted Terricotta and Black Colors in a Floral Leaf Motif Design

In Very Good Condition

Shirley Chino is part of the extended Chino family of Acoma potters (a prominent lineage that includes well-known artists like Lucy M. Lewis and her descendants). Acoma owl figurines by various artists, including members of the Chino family, often depict the bird in a stylized, seated or perched pose with large eyes, and some have a "winking" expression—one eye closed or partially closed for a playful, characterful look. These are hand-formed from local clay, pit-fired, and painted with natural mineral pigments using yucca brushes.
