In Very Good Condition

Eva Histia (1914–2005) was a respected Acoma Pueblo potter from New Mexico. She was the daughter of potter Helice Vallo and learned traditional pottery-making by watching and working with her mother. She began producing and selling pieces as a young teenager around 1922 and continued actively into the 1990s (over 70 years). She is especially known for traditional polychrome hand-coiled pottery. Forms include jars, bowls, pitchers, lamps, owl figures/effigies, canteens, and fluted wedding vases/jars with twisted or braided handles. Designs often feature geometrics, birds/parrots, butterflies, rain/lightning motifs, flowers, and other classic Acoma elements. Pieces are commonly signed (e.g., “E. H. Acoma N.Mex,” “E. Histia,” “Eva Histia Acoma,” or similar).
