The Anasazi, also known as the Ancestral Puebloans, were an ancient Native American culture that thrived in the Four Corners region of the southwestern United States (encompassing parts of modern-day Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah) from approximately 100 AD to 1300 AD. They are renowned for their sophisticated architecture, such as cliff dwellings in places like Mesa Verde National Park, and their exquisite pottery, which served both practical and ceremonial purposes. Anasazi pottery is a cornerstone of Southwestern archaeology, offering insights into trade networks, artistic evolution, and daily life. The term "Anasazi" itself comes from Navajo, meaning "ancient enemy" or "ancestor of the enemy," though modern scholars prefer "Ancestral Pueblo" to honor their descendants, the contemporary Pueblo peoples.
