Pine needle basketry was taught to Americans as part of the curriculum in American Normal School education since the early 1900's, taught to Appalachians as part of economic development projects, and this very pattern is in Mary Jane McAfee's "The Pine Needle Basket Book" (1911) who invented the craft in the United States.
