Antique miniature Makah or Nootka (Nuu-chah-nulth) lidded baskets are charming examples of Pacific Northwest Coast Native American basketry, primarily from the Makah people of Washington's Olympic Peninsula (Neah Bay area) and related Nuu-chah-nulth groups on Vancouver Island. These small "trinket" or fancy baskets were often made for sale to tourists and collectors starting in the 1860s as a cottage industry, continuing through the early-to-mid 20th century.
