Antique Papago (Tohono O'odham) baskets, primarily crafted in Arizona from the late 19th to early 20th century, are characterized by sturdy, coiled construction using yucca, beargrass, and black devil's claw. Authentic pieces often feature geometric patterns, such as the "whirlwind" design, typically in tan and black, featuring a rigid feel and sometimes featuring square starts.
