Antique Papago baskets are traditional coiled baskets made by the Tohono O’odham (formerly called Papago by Spanish and Anglo settlers), a Native American people of the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona and northern Sonora, Mexico. These baskets are prized by collectors for their tight weaving, geometric or pictorial designs drawn from desert life and mythology, and use of natural materials that reflect the harsh environment.
