Hand Woven and Adorned with Buckskin Fringe with Metal Cones that Produce a Jingling Sound when the Basket Moves
Excellent Condition
Apache burden baskets are iconic examples of Southwestern Native American craftsmanship, particularly from the Western Apache and San Carlos Apache tribes. These cone-shaped baskets were traditionally woven by women for practical use in daily life, but they also hold deep cultural and ceremonial significance. The "fringe" are long strips of buckskin (tanned leather) that dangle from the base or rim of the basket, often tipped with small metal cones (commonly tin or commercially produced jingles). These elements add both aesthetic appeal and functionality.
