Apache Burden Baskets are traditional woven utility baskets made by various Apache groups, such as the Western Apache, White Mountain Apache, San Carlos Apache, Jicarilla Apache, and Mescalero Apache. These baskets are typically conical or deep, with a wide opening at the top and a flat or rounded base, making them stable for carrying heavy loads on the back. They are primarily made using the twining technique: flexible weft shoots (horizontal elements) are twisted around rigid vertical warps (foundation sticks).
