Arizona axe heads are ancient stone axe heads (also called celts or grooved axes) crafted by Native American cultures in the region, particularly the Hohokam, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), and Mogollon peoples.
These are prehistoric tools, often made from hard stone like basalt or other fine-grained materials, shaped by grinding and pecking. They feature grooves for hafting (attaching to a wooden handle) and were used for chopping wood, digging, or other heavy tasks.
Full groove axes are more common in northern Arizona and the Four Corners area, produced by Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi) stoneworkers, especially after AD 1000. The groove encircles the entire head.
