The Chimu blackware duck vessel is a type of ancient ceramic artifact from the Chimu culture (also spelled Chimu), which flourished along the northern coast of Peru from approximately 900–1470 AD, before being conquered by the Inca.Chimú pottery is renowned for its distinctive blackware technique: vessels were fired in a reducing atmosphere (low oxygen), creating a lustrous, shiny gray-black metallic finish without additional pigments or slips. This monochromatic style emphasized form over colorful decoration, and many pieces were mass-produced using molds for efficiency.
