Navajo weaving known as Chinle Revival (also called Chinle Classic Revival) originated in the 1930s at the Chinle Trading Post in Arizona (near Canyon de Chelly). Traders Cozy McSparron and Mary Cabot Wheelwright encouraged Navajo weavers to revive earlier 19th-century "Transitional Period" designs featuring horizontal banded patterns with geometric motifs (like zigzags, hourglasses, diamonds, or squash blossoms). These alternate with plain stripes.
