Coast Salish peoples (and related Interior Salish groups like Thompson River Salish), Indigenous communities from the Pacific Northwest, including regions in western Washington, British Columbia, and Puget Sound areas.

These baskets are renowned for their craftsmanship, functionality, and cultural significance. Coast Salish weavers (often women, though sometimes men) produced a variety of baskets for everyday and ceremonial uses, such as gathering berries, roots, clams, or shellfish; storing food and household items; transporting goods; cooking (some coiled baskets were watertight enough for boiling with hot rocks); and even cradling infants.
