Helen Cordero (Cochiti Pueblo, 1915–1995). Inspired by her grandfather Santiago Quintana (a renowned tribal storyteller), she transformed traditional "singing mother" figures—seated women with one or two children—into larger seated adults (often male initially, later female or other variations) with open mouths and many small children climbing on their laps, arms, shoulders, and backs. The eyes are typically closed, evoking deep concentration while singing or telling stories.
