Mary E. Quintana is a Cochiti Pueblo potter specializing in handmade storyteller figurines (pottery dolls), clay sculptures, and nativities. Born in 1946 into the Pueblo de Cochiti in New Mexico, she is a full-blooded Native American artist. She learned the fundamentals of working with clay from her mother and has been actively creating clay art since around 1980. She gathers her own clay and volcanic sand from the hills around Cochiti Pueblo, cleans and mixes it, hand-shapes the pieces, paints them, and fires them in a kiln.
