Mary O. Chalan is a Cochiti Pueblo potter known for figurative pottery, including storyteller figures and animal forms such as turtles. She was born into Cochiti Pueblo in August 1939, the daughter of Raymond and Barbarita Herrera. She learned pottery-making by watching and working with her mother-in-law, Helen Cordero. Mary primarily made polychrome jars and bowls but is best known for her storytellers , as well as turtles, bears, frogs, and other animal figures. Her storyteller faces are described as distinctive.
