Coleville, California is a small, unincorporated community in Mono County, located in the scenic Antelope Valley along the West Walker River in the Eastern Sierra region. It's near the California-Nevada border, at about 5,141 feet elevation, roughly halfway between Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Lakes. The area features beautiful high-desert landscapes, rivers, and mountains ideal for outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, and horseback riding.

The region has a rich Native American history, as the Eastern Sierra and nearby areas were home to Indigenous peoples like the Paiute (including groups connected to the Mono and other tribes), who used the land for millennia. They crafted tools, including projectile points (commonly called arrowheads or spear points), from local materials like obsidian—a volcanic glass abundant in volcanic areas of Northern and Eastern California.
