A Coushatta Pine Needle Basket with Lid is a traditional handcrafted basket made by the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana (Koasati people), one of the most renowned Native American tribes for pine needle basketry in the southeastern United States.
The Coushatta learned and refined pine needle basketry in the early 20th century after relocating to Louisiana (many originally from Alabama). It became both an artistic tradition and an important source of income.
