The hand axe is a groundbreaking stone tool invented by our prehistoric ancestors. These were not axes in the modern sense (with handles), but handheld, bifacially flaked stones used for a variety of tasks. They represent a major leap in human technology during the Lower Paleolithic period, marking the shift from simple choppers to more sophisticated, symmetrical tools. Hand axes were produced for over Thousands of years, longer than any other tool type in human history, and were primarily associated with Homo erectus and related species.
