Pestles are cylindrical, conical, pear-shaped, or bell-shaped, made by pecking, grinding, and polishing durable stones. Working ends show impact or abrasion wear; some were multipurpose or reused as pounders/axes after breakage. Use-wear and residue studies confirm pounding (vertical) and grinding motions on plant foods, with occasional symbolic or ritual associations.
