The Eskimo Ivory Sperm Whale and Squid Statue refers to a type of traditional Alaskan Native (often Yup'ik or Iñupiaq) scrimshaw carving made from fossil walrus ivory or mammoth ivory (not modern elephant ivory). These intricate miniature sculptures typically depict a dramatic underwater scene: a sperm whale locked in battle with a giant squid, coiled tentacles wrapping around the whale’s head and body.
