The Haida people of Haida Gwaii (off British Columbia, Canada) are renowned for their sophisticated art, woodworking, and weaving, with western red cedar (Thuja plicata) serving as a "Tree of Life" central to daily life, ceremony, and spirituality. Its inner bark was processed into soft, flexible material for clothing, mats, hats, ropes, and ceremonial items.
