Hopi Kachina dolls (also known as tithu or katsintithu) are sacred carvings central to Hopi culture in northeastern Arizona. These figures represent katsinam—immortal spirits or supernatural beings that act as messengers between humans and the natural world, bringing rain, fertility, and balance to the community. Traditionally carved from the root of the cottonwood tree (Populus deltoides), the dolls are painted with natural pigments and adorned with feathers, yarn, or leather to depict specific katsinam, such as animals, plants, ancestors, or natural forces.
