Leah Garcia Nampeyo (1928–1974) was a renowned Hopi-Tewa potter from the First Mesa community in northeastern Arizona, deeply rooted in one of the most influential artistic lineages in Native American ceramics. As the granddaughter of the legendary Nampeyo of Hano (c. 1858–1942)—often hailed as the "grande dame" of Hopi pottery—and the daughter of potter Fannie Polacca Nampeyo, Leah inherited and perpetuated a tradition of excellence that revived ancient Hopi techniques in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Her siblings, including Elva Nampeyo, Iris Youvella Nampeyo, and Tonita Hamilton, also carried on the family craft, creating a dynasty of potters whose work is celebrated in museums and private collections worldwide.
