The Hilili (also spelled Hi-li-li or Hilili Katsina) is a distinctive spirit figure primarily associated with the Hopi people, though its roots are often traced to the Acoma or Laguna Pueblo traditions where it is known as Heleleka. The name "Hilili" is onomatopoeic, derived from "the call that he makes." Historically, the figure was initially viewed with suspicion by some Hopi mesas, occasionally labeled as a witch or Powak Kachina, before gaining widespread acceptance and popularity across all mesas as a guard figure.
