Hopi coiled basket or poota, is a style which is made only in the villages on Second Mesa. It is woven of galleta grass/sühü and sewn with yucca/ (Yucca angustisima) called mooho in Hopi.
Hopi coiled baskets, often called poota in the Hopi language, are exquisite examples of Native American basketry, primarily crafted by women from the Second Mesa villages (such as Mishongnovi, Shipaulovi, and Shungopavi) in northeastern Arizona. These baskets represent a deep cultural tradition, blending utility, artistry, and spiritual significance.
