Watson Namoki (born August 8, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois) is a respected Hopi artist of mixed heritage—his father was Hopi (from the village of Kykotsmovi on Third Mesa, Fire Clan), and his mother was Navajo. He has been carving since his teenage years, becoming serious about it around 1994, largely self-taught by observing other carvers (his father, Bob Namoki, was also a known carver). Namoki attended the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe and has been creating contemporary wood and stone sculptures since the 1980s. He specializes in smaller, detailed figures with careful attention to costumes, colors, and designs. His work has appeared in galleries across the Southwest, exhibitions like the Santa Fe Indian Market and Heard Museum Katsina Doll Market, and publications such as Hopi Katsina: 1,600 Artist Biographies by Gregory Schaaf.
