The Hopi Kachina doll carved by Honawa is work done by Jerry Honawa, a respected Hopi artist from the Rabbit/Tobacco Clan. He has been carving since the 1970s and lives in Hotevilla on Third Mesa of the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. Honawa is known for creating traditional Katsina dolls, often from cottonwood root, sometimes finished with oil-based stains rather than modern paints, and emphasizing all-wood or minimally attached elements.
