Ron Chimerica is a Hopi carver known for traditional Katsina (Kachina) dolls from the Hopi Pueblo in Arizona. These dolls represent spiritual beings (katsinam) that mediate between the Hopi people and their deities, bringing blessings like rain, fertility, and harmony. While originally given to children as educational tools during ceremonies, they have become highly collected as fine Native American art.The Chimerica family includes several respected Hopi artisans, such as Darance (Makwesa) Chimerica (a prominent contemporary carver from Hotevilla on Third Mesa who uses cottonwood root and natural mineral pigments).
