Hopi Old-Style Kachina Dolls (also spelled Katsina or Katsinam) are traditional carvings made by Hopi artists from cottonwood root. These represent spiritual beings (katsinam) that embody natural elements, ancestors, deities, or messengers who bring rain, fertility, and harmony to the Hopi people.
The old-style is a traditional form inspired by late 19th- and early 20th-century designs: simple, blocky figures with minimal detailing, arms close to the body, and vibrant natural pigments. These contrast with more modern, action-oriented, or highly detailed carvings.
