Santana Roybal Martinez collaborated with the legendary Maria Martinez (often signed "Marie + Santana" or "Maria + Santana," ~1943–1956). She later worked with her husband Adam Martinez (signed "Santana + Adam"). Their work is primarily black-on-black (or sometimes black-on-red) from San Ildefonso Pueblo in New Mexico — a different Pueblo tradition known for highly polished, matte-black carved or painted designs (e.g., feathers, avanyu serpents, or geometric motifs).
