The Youvella family has a strong legacy in Hopi pottery, particularly from the village of Sichomovi on First Mesa. Youvella utilized traditional processes, including hand-coiling native clay, polishing, and pit-firing outdoors. His pottery is known for highly detailed carved designs, a departure from the simple polished surfaces of his mother's work. His designs often featured traditional Hopi imagery, such as Kachina figures, executed with precision and a three-dimensional quality. He sometimes collaborated with his wife, Iris Nampeyo, a member of the famous Nampeyo pottery lineage.
