Beth Sakeva (also spelled Sakeva; 1926–1994) was a Hopi-Tewa potter from Tewa Village (Hano) on First Mesa of the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. She belonged to the Kachina/Parrot Clan and came from a noted pottery family: daughter of Hazel Shupla, niece of Irene Shupla and Lena Charlie, sister of Kenneth Shupla, and mother of Ernest, Charlotte, and Alfonso Sakeva.  She began forming pottery around 1971 and started painting and firing in 1973.  She is known especially for traditional Hopi-Tewa black-on-red (or polychrome) bowls and plates, often with geometric panels, stylized bird/migration motifs, fine linework, and her distinctive “sherd” design style—interlocking geometric panels that wrap around the vessel. This approach influenced later potters such as Rondina Huma. Pieces are typically signed on the underside “Beth Sakeva,” sometimes with “Tewa.”
