Walpi is the oldest continuously inhabited Hopi village on First Mesa. Traditional Hopi pottery  continues there and in neighboring villages. Animal figures, including turtles, are part of the broader repertoire of miniatures and effigies that became popular with collectors in the mid-to-late 20th century. Designs often draw on geometric, migration, or natural motifs with cultural significance.
