A Hopi tableta with a butterfly motif is a painted wooden ceremonial headdress traditionally worn by young Hopi women, especially in the Butterfly Dance and related performances. These are flat, board-like pieces, often with the top edge cut into stepped or terraced forms that represent rain clouds. They are polychrome-painted in mineral or modern pigments and may include cut-out elements, feathers, or a leather/hide harness for securing to the head. Designs frequently combine butterfly imagery with corn, flowers, geometric patterns, rainbows, or other symbols of fertility, rain, and agricultural renewal. Many are double-sided.
