Hopi Pueblo Tewa Snake Dancers Kachina Dolls Pair By A.L. Sahmie

Andrew L. Sahmie (Hopi-Tewa, from First Mesa/Polacca, Arizona, Corn Clan) was an active kachina carver, primarily from the 1970s/1980s onward (with some works into later decades). He is known for detailed, expressive cottonwood root carvings using traditional paints, feathers, and other adornments. His pieces often appear in galleries, auctions, and collections, including examples like White Buffalo Dancer, Crow Mother, Black Buffalo, Kaisale (Winter Clown), Nataska Ogre, and others. Some of his work has been exhibited or held in museum collections (e.g., pieces associated with the Heard Museum).
