A.L. Sahmie (full name Andrew L. Sahmie Sr. or Andrew Louie Sahmie), a Hopi-Tewa artist from First Mesa (Polacca/Keams Canyon area), Arizona, carves these and other katsinam. He belongs to the Corn Clan, is self-taught (learning by trial and error while observing his older brothers Finkle and Randall Sahmie), and has been actively carving since around 1990. His work features detailed, expressive figures, often with humorous or refined elements in contemporary traditional style. He is related to notable artists, including potter Nampeyo as a great-great-great-great-grandson through his family line.
