Nampeyo of Hano (c. 1857–1942), also known as "Nampeyo the Old Lady," was a renowned Hopi-Tewa potter from the First Mesa village of Hano on the Hopi Reservation in northeastern Arizona. Born to a Tewa mother and Hopi father, she was raised in a community of Tewa people who had migrated to Hopi lands around 1700 following the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. Nampeyo learned pottery-making from her grandmother at a young age and began selling her work as a teenager, initially creating traditional "Polacca" or "crackle ware" pottery—coiled vessels with a textured, crackled surface typical of Hopi styles in the late 19th century.
