Hopi (Hopituh Shi-nu-mu) basketry from the pueblos on the mesas in northeastern Arizona includes distinct traditional techniques: coiling (primarily Second Mesa) and wicker (primarily Third Mesa), along with plaiting practiced more widely. These are not typically combined into a single “wicker coiled” form—coiling and wicker are separate construction methods—though both produce highly regarded plaques, trays, bowls, and other forms used in daily life, ceremonies, and as gifts.
