Loren Phillips (born circa 1940s, active 1970s–present) is a master Hopi silversmith from the Third Mesa village of Hotevilla on the Hopi Reservation in northeastern Arizona. He is celebrated for his intricate silver overlay technique, a hallmark of Hopi jewelry where a top layer of silver is cut out in precise designs (often pictographic or symbolic) and soldered over an oxidized (darkened) base layer, creating high-contrast, storytelling visuals. Phillips' work frequently draws from Hopi cosmology, clan symbols, and natural elements like animals, corn, water, and kachinas (spirit beings).
