The Iroquois (more properly known as the Haudenosaunee Confederacy) are renowned for their False Face Society masks, which play a central role in traditional healing rituals. These masks represent powerful spirit beings, often called "False Faces" or "Great Defender," derived from creation myths involving a hunchbacked healer who gained power to cure diseases after challenging the Creator.
