In Good Condition

Around 1879, a group of Laguna Pueblo families split from their village and settled at Isleta Pueblo. They established a village named Oraibi and began creating downscaled polychrome pottery specifically tailored for travelers to easily pack into luggage. They frequently made small items like bowls, ashtrays and unique pottery smoking pipes. These pipes were produced primarily as souvenirs for the tourist market in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (circa 1900) rather than for functional smoking devices.
