Mary Louise Eteeyan is a Jemez Pueblo potter born in 1942. She is the daughter of potter Anna Marie Shendo (or Sendo) and the mother of award-winning potter Kimberly Eteeyan. She grew up around pottery but did not seriously pursue it until her mid-30s (around 1978). She is largely self-taught, though she received some guidance from friends and observed other potters. She gathers her own clay from within the Pueblo, processes it traditionally, hand-coils her pieces, paints them with natural pigments, and fires them outdoors in the traditional way. She often combines matte and polished surfaces.
