Virginia Ponca Fragua (also known as V.P. Fragua, V. Fragua, or Ponca Fragua), a Jemez Pueblo potter of the Corn Clan (born 1961), produces traditional pottery that includes storyteller dolls/figures as well as melon-style vessels featuring corn motifs.andreafisherpottery.com She learned pottery-making from her grandmother, Persingula M. Gachupin, and her mother, Lenora G. Fragua. She began actively making and selling work as a teenager. Her pieces are hand-coiled from local clay, shaped, painted with natural pigments, and traditionally fired outdoors (often with cedar). She specializes in melon-style pottery (with carved ribs) and frequently incorporates a corn symbol to reflect her Corn Clan affiliation. Favorite designs include corn plants/cornstalks, feathers, lightning, rain clouds, rainbows, kiva steps, and geometric elements. She has also made buff polychrome and polished red jars, bowls, and storytellers.
