Jemez Pueblo (also known as Walatowa), located in north-central New Mexico, is one of the 19 Pueblos and renowned for its vibrant pottery tradition. While Jemez artists create a wide range of forms—including bowls, seed jars, sgraffito (finely etched/polished) vessels, wedding vases, and especially whimsical storyteller figurines—turtle-shaped pottery figurines and effigies are a popular and charming specialty.
