Dominique Toya (1971–2023), born Damian Toya into the Corn Clan. She learned from her mother Maxine Toya and grandmother Marie G. Romero and became known for innovative micaceous clay pieces with deep-carved melon swirls, organic openings, and polished surfaces. Early works were signed “Damian Toya” (sometimes with a corn symbol for clan); later pieces used “Dominique Toya, Jemez.” She earned major awards (including Best of Class at Santa Fe Indian Market) and collaborated with her mother.
