Michael Kanteena (b. 1959, Laguna Pueblo) is a renowned Native American potter known for his black-on-white (and sometimes polychrome) pottery inspired by Ancestral Puebloan traditions. He specializes in hand-coiled pieces that recreate or evoke historic and prehistoric styles from Chaco Canyon, Mesa Verde, Mimbres culture, and other ancient Southwest traditions, often with animal effigies or figures. His work is frequently described as "Cibola-Revival" black-on-white, firing pieces twice (kiln for strength, then outdoors for an aged appearance). He signs pieces like "KANTEENA / LAGUNA NM."
