Laguna Pueblo pottery signed "Lente" is primarily the work of the late artist Marquis Dann-Lente (1970-2005). His pieces are hand-coiled and hand-painted using traditional methods and was a highly regarded Laguna Pueblo artist who was also half Hopi. He learned the art of pottery from Preston Duwyenie (Hopi) and May Chavez (Acoma Pueblo), mastering ancient, traditional methods. He used native clay and natural pigments (gathered and boiled from raw plants) and fired his pottery outdoors with cedar chips. He fashioned his paintbrushes from yucca stems.
